Quintana Roo, Mexico, is about to welcome a new gem in its tourism infrastructure: Tulum International Airport, also known as Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport (IATA Code: TQO – ICAO Code: MMTU). This airport, strategically located about 10 kilometers southwest of Tulum, has been taking shape since the first days of June 2022 and is scheduled to begin operations in 2024.

In March 2022, President López Obrador announced an important step forward in the construction of the Tulum International Airport and sections 6 and 7 of the Mayan Train. A contingent of 80 military engineers was assigned to the Yucatán Peninsula, joining the 75 who had already begun construction work. This adds up to a total of 155 personnel who will contribute to the success of these transcendental works.

The resurgence of these projects is a testament to the government’s commitment to infrastructure development in the region. Tulum Airport will not only improve connectivity in Quintana Roo, but will also support economic growth and tourism in the area.
