The awaited Tulum Airport, strategically located south of busy Cancun, is in the final stages of opening.

This infrastructure seeks to be the reference point for those who wish to explore the paradisiacal beaches and the serene character of this jewel of the Caribbean. In addition, its operation promises to decongest the traffic currently faced by the Cancún International Airport (CUN).

Lovers of tropical getaways from the United States will find this new Delta offer a tempting invitation. The airline will begin operations from its central node at Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) direct to Tulum, offering daily flights.

In the words of Joe Esposito, Delta route planning leader, the company is at the forefront of providing an efficient and direct route from the US to Tulum, a prestigious enclave, recognized for its exclusive accommodations, Mayan heritage and proposals of sustainable tourism.

The inaugural Atlanta-Tulum flight is scheduled for March 28, 2024, operated with the Boeing 737-800, with capacity for 160 travelers.

It is no surprise that Delta has a robust network of connections with Mexico, strengthened by its alliance with Aeroméxico.

At the end of October 2023, the American firm reports 84 weekly trips from Atlanta to six Mexican destinations. The numbers speak for themselves: 29 connections to Cancún, 28 to Mexico City, 8 to San José del Cabo, 7 to Guadalajara and Monterrey, and 5 to Puerto Vallarta.

If we expand the lens beyond Atlanta, Delta adds an extra 97 weekly flights to Mexico, operating from key cities such as Boston, Detroit, New York JFK, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Seattle and Salt Lake City. However, Atlanta is consolidated as Delta’s main axis to connect with the Aztec country.
