In a move that promises to transform the tourism landscape between South America and Mexico, Colombian airline Avianca has announced the opening of a direct route that will link the capital of Colombia with one of the most coveted destinations in the Riviera Maya.
This strategic decision shortens geographical distances and strengthens cultural and economic ties between both nations.
The new air connection to Tulum Airport, scheduled to begin operations at the end of 2024, represents a step forward in the company’s expansion into the Mexican market.
With this initiative, the airline seeks to meet the growing demand of South American travelers eager to explore the wonders of the Mexican Caribbean, while strengthening its position as a key player in regional air transport.
An Air Bridge to the Mayan Paradise
Starting December 10, 2024, travelers will be able to enjoy a direct connection between Bogotá and Tulum.
The route will operate three times a week, using modern Airbus A320 aircraft, which will guarantee more than a thousand seats available weekly between both destinations.
According to a senior executive of the airline, this new route is the result of a careful planning process started in July of last year.
“Tulum has become one of the most coveted destinations in the Riviera Maya, and we are excited to offer our passengers faster and more comfortable access to its paradisiacal beaches and rich cultural heritage,” said the executive.

This schedule has been carefully designed to facilitate seamless connections to other destinations in America and Europe, taking advantage of Bogotá’s El Dorado Airport’s position as an important regional hub.
Impact on Tourism and the Regional Economy
The opening of this route will benefit leisure travelers and is expected to have a significant impact on business tourism as well as cultural exchange between Colombia and Mexico.
Experts anticipate that this direct connection could stimulate new investment and collaboration opportunities between both countries.
Tourism authorities in Tulum have expressed their enthusiasm for this new route, seeing in it an opportunity to diversify their visitor base and strengthen their position as a world-class destination.
For its part, the hotel and service sector in the region is preparing to receive a new profile of South American traveler, adapting its offers to meet the expectations of this emerging market.
With this new air connection, the distance between the beautiful South American cities and the paradisiacal beaches of the Mexican Caribbean is shortened, promising to open a new chapter in tourism and trade relations between these two dynamic regions of Latin America.
