In an outstanding achievement that projects the future of tourism in the Mexican Caribbean, the “Felipe Carrillo Puerto” Tulum International Airport has surpassed the 2 million-passenger mark since it began operations on December 1, 2023.

This important milestone not only demonstrates the airport’s capacity and modernity, but also reflects Tulum’s accelerated growth as a key hub for domestic and international tourism.

The recent arrival of one of the Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, incorporated into the Mexicana de Aviación fleet, marked a historic moment for the terminal.

The flight from Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) landed in Tulum with all 132 seats occupied, and the aircraft departed with the same occupancy level, highlighting the ongoing desire to explore the region’s natural and cultural beauties.

Air expansion and strategic connectivity

The government of Quintana Roo, under the leadership of Mara Lezama Espinosa, has recognized and celebrated Mexicana de Aviación’s efforts to strengthen its routes and increase flight capacity.

The integration of new aircraft and the opening of strategic connections are fundamental steps to attract tourists from diverse markets, boost economic development, and foster the creation of opportunities in the local sector.

Bernardo Cueto Riestra, State Secretary of Tourism, emphasized that close collaboration between airlines and tourism stakeholders is essential to guarantee a solid flight network that boosts the state’s tourism and economic dynamism.

This vision is part of the goals of the New Era of Tourism, which seeks to position Quintana Roo as the undisputed leader in the country.

Economic and social impact in the region

The air connectivity offered by Tulum Airport has had a direct impact on job creation and the strengthening of local communities.

The diversification of routes and the constant arrival of visitors contribute to the Mexican Caribbean remaining one of the fastest-growing and most important regions in global tourism.
